Is Soloblog really free?
Yes. It's open source under the MIT licence. You only pay the hosting company that runs it, usually US$3-7 a month, and your domain if you want one. The paid plans are for having it set up and looked after for you.
Do I own my blog?
Yes. It runs in your own hosting account, under your name, and your posts are plain files you can copy or move anywhere. We never own or hold your site.
Why do I pay the hosting company and not you?
Because that's what keeps the blog yours. If you ever stop a plan, or we stopped existing, your blog keeps running in your account.
Do you need my passwords?
No. You invite us as a team member in your hosting account, and you can remove us any time. You create your own blog login - we never see it.
What happens if I cancel?
Your blog keeps running as it is. We remove our access, and you take over updates and backups - or come back any time.
Can you move my blog from WordPress, Substack, Medium or Ghost?
Yes, as part of Setup: posts, images, and subscribers from Substack, with your old links still working.
Which hosting company should I use?
We'll suggest one that fits your budget. Railway, Fly.io, Render and DigitalOcean all work well, and so does a small server of your own.
Can more than one person write on it?
No - Soloblog is made for one person, and that keeps it simple. For a team, a tool like Ghost or WordPress is a better fit.
Is there a refund?
Setup: a full refund if you change your mind before we start, or if we can't get your blog running. Care and Premium: stop any time, and you're not charged again. Nothing here limits your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
